Roles & Responsibilities
The Wardrobe Assistant is responsible for helping team members get into costume for special events, as well as assisting with costume fittings and repairs. This position will work closely with our Hair & Makeup Supervisor, Costume Specialist, and Makeup Artists to create cohesive looks for all Halloween characters.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Engage with guests and other team members in a fun and welcoming manner
- Conduct fittings for performers and staff, ensuring costumes are comfortable, safe, and visually effective
- Absorb and pass on knowledge of costume care and maintenance
- Assist character performers with costuming needs, when needed
- Assist character performers with adding or removing their costumes
- Absorb and pass on knowledge of costume care and maintenance
- Assist with mending and/or storing costumes
- Maintain an organized inventory of all costumes, accessories, and supplies
- Work collaboratively with the event team, including directors/managers, house leadership, performers, makeup artists, and maze hosts
- Manage your time effectively to ensure all performers are ready on schedule
- Proactively monitor assigned areas and quickly identify and escalate any safety hazards or other risks to the proper authorities
- Ensure compliance with and enforce all park policies, procedures, and labor laws
- All other duties assigned by leadership
Language
Ability to read, write, and speak fluent EnglishSpanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.
Education And Experience
No education requirements for this positionPrevious acting or costume character experience is desired but not required
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age to comply with Connecticut Child Labor Laws
- Must be able to obtain Working Papers if under the age of 18
- Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work for your scheduled shift
- Must possess exceptional customer service skills, with an ability to resolve questions, problems, issues, and concerns in a positive and professional manner
- Previous special effects make up experience and portfolio is preferred but not required
- Ability to follow direction, multi-task, and work as part of a fast-paced team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for majority of the workday
- Ability to remain sedentary for extended periods of time while applying makeup
- Frequent stooping, twisting, kneeling, bending, squatting, or reaching above shoulders
- Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 50 pounds or more
- Consistently use hands to grasp, control, move objects/tools
- See details of objects that are more than a few feet away
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to outdoor and indoor areas of the park
- Frequent exposure to the variable outside temperatures (both in and out of costume), including high heat, cold, direct sun, humidity, dust, rain, snow, ice, and other weather conditions
- Subject to frequent interruptions, constant repetitive motion, high noise levels, flashing lights, and heavily populated environments
