About the role
The Lactation Consultant is accountable for maintaining knowledge and skills essential to performance of stated behaviors in the position and is accountable to Maternal Child Health Management. The Lactation Consultant is a registered nurse with a minimum of three years of experience in counseling breastfeeding mothers. The Lactation Consultant is skilled in assessment planning, implementation and evaluation to assist the breastfeeding mother to attain her individual goals. The Lactation Consultant functions as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team as a consultant, instructor, mentor and preceptor to other nurses, health care professionals and patients.
Responsibilities
- Be knowledgeable in the physiology and methodology of breastfeeding
- Work with maternity patients of different socioeconomic backgrounds
- Provide education to nursing staff
Requirements
- Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English
- Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field is preferred
- Completion of formal lactation program within six months of hire date
- Minimum of three years working with lactating mothers and neonates
- Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license
- Certified by IBCLC
- Current BLS certification by AHA standards required

- Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
