About the role
The successful candidate will provide consultation in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to mothers of patients in the management of breastfeeding to promote optimal patient outcomes. They will educate staff and complex breastfeeding management, collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team in monitoring breastfeeding progress of mothers and modifying the plan of care to promote optimal outcomes, and maintain breastfeeding statistics for Brenner Children's Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Provides consultation in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to mothers of patients in the management of breastfeeding to promote optimal patient outcomes.
- Educates staff and complex breastfeeding management.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team in monitoring breastfeeding progress of mothers and modifying the plan of care to promote optimal outcomes.
- Maintains breastfeeding statistics for Brenner Children's Hospital.
- Develops policies and procedures as needed for Lactation Consultant services, breastfeeding equipment and resources and participates in performance and quality improvement activities and outcomes projects.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited college/university with Bachelor's degree in Administration, Nutrition, or Nursing.
- Prior experience in a neonatal intensive care or pediatric unit as an IBCLC preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills preferred.

- Demonstrates ability to successfully counsel and assist mothers with breastfeeding skills.
- Ability to develop educational programs for families and staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with medical and nursing staff, employees and the public.
