Lactation Consultant

Responsibilities

• Performs lactation consultations for Humboldt Park Health patients, develops a plan of care that results in meeting the breastfeeding mother’s goals, and provides resources to the patients for follow-up as needed.
• Communicates with physicians, staff, and other key hospital personnel to assure continuity of advice, treatment, and follow-up plans for patients.
• Provides quality education and ongoing evaluation of customer satisfaction for the hospital’s programs by direct hands-on instruction in classes to patients.
• Assists patients in the use of breast pumps and addresses any problems associated with them.
• Helps other staff members answer questions and assists patients with bra fittings, as needed.
• Maintains consistent quality, stays informed of innovative techniques, and recommends and implements changes as appropriate.
• Adheres to downtime procedures and established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
• Performs both essential and non-essential job functions in a safe manner as identified by Humboldt Park Health.
• Demonstrates an understanding of and models the mission and core values of Norwegian American Hospital.
• Enhances professional growth and development by accessing educational programs, job-related literature, in-service meetings, and workshops/seminars.
• Checks hospital email daily.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
