About the role
This position is located at: Outdoor Recreation Adventure Park - Fort Riley, Kansas.
DFMWR provides family support activities and services; social, fitness and recreational activities that enhance community life, fosters Soldier and unit readiness and promotes mental and physical fitness; and wellness programs that directly support readiness and resiliency.
Responsibilities
- Operate large, complex riding lawn mower (e.g., multiple and independently controlled cutting decks) and/or specially designed riding mowers to mow in areas requiring attention to space and environment.
- Perform tasks that require significant manual skill, very heavy physical effort, several steps, phases, and detailed procedures (e.g., preparing ground for sod, flowers and shrubs) following specifications on project requirements.
- Select the most appropriate type of equipment to accomplish the work, follow safety practices, obtain assistance, and perform routine maintenance and adjustments on equipment.
- Work indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions when working outdoors. Exposed to drafts, noise, dust, and dirt. Possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes.
Requirements
To qualify, applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or non-U.S. National who has resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:
- Demonstrated work experience that includes the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position as indicated in the Duties section.
- Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc.
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
Highly preferred candidates will be referred to management first. In addition to meeting the above qualifications, highly preferred is defined as also meeting the criteria listed below:
- Experience operating a chainsaw.

Incentives and Bonuses: Incentives will not be paid.
Allowances and Differentials: This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
