Laboratory Technologist - Evening (Per-diem)
About the role
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, Shift Coordinators, and Section Coordinators, and with the assistance of Medical Technologists, you will perform a range of clinical laboratory testing accurately and promptly. You will develop technical and problem-solving skills, gain thorough knowledge of department principles and instrumentation, and work toward Medical Technologist promotion within 2 years of hire (highly preferred). You will assist in other departments as needed, maintain effective communication across shifts, and uphold all CHAMP and HRO standards. The role requires adherence to Quality Control and Quality Assurance standards, participation in proficiency testing, and a commitment to continuing education and licensure preparation.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate technical competency by performing a variety of laboratory techniques, including moderate complexity tests (high complexity testing highly preferred).
- Perform tests according to laboratory procedures with acceptable accuracy and precision.
- Develop and demonstrate knowledge of instrumentation, procedures, and processes, including scheduled instrument maintenance and documentation.
- Manage reagents and supplies to ensure availability for testing.
- Maintain procedure knowledge, implement new and revised procedures in real time, and adapt to expanding department skillsets.
- Participate in inter-laboratory continuing education programs and professional development activities.
- Work cooperatively in a team-oriented environment, accepting reassignment within and outside the hiring department as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Biological Science, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, or an equivalent field. Transcript review required.
- Eligibility and inherent skillset for moderate complexity testing; high complexity testing highly preferred.
- Laboratory experience preferred but not required.
- ASCP categorical certification eligibility and completion within 2 years of hire (highly preferred).
- Basic knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, equipment, and information systems.
- Skilled manual dexterity for manual procedures.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet design, and web-based resources.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team.
