Laboratory Technologist - Evening Lab - Full Time, Evenings

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The facility includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services such as women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. It operates a Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke Center designated by the New York State Department of Health, and multiple outpatient sites including a wound care center, hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technologist to join our team on the Evening Lab shift, full-time. In this role, you will perform various clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections of the Laboratory Department to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease. You will analyze and interpret test results, ensure accuracy, and repeat tests as necessary, especially those yielding abnormal or atypical results.

Responsibilities

Technical Skills

• Applies a basic level of knowledge of methods and clinical relevance of tests performed in your area of responsibility.
• Performs all preventive maintenance on schedule in accordance with laboratory procedure.
• Recognizes abnormal instrument or test performance and does not release patient results until the situation is corrected.
• Performs basic troubleshooting procedures and seeks assistance when necessary.
• Monitors reagent and supply inventory and informs supervisor of needs.
• Works effectively in high-pressure situations without losing composure or making mistakes when processing a high volume of work.
• Organizes work well so others can easily work with you or take over in your absence.
• Verifies and processes specimens in an organized and timely manner.
• Performs phlebotomy when required with expertise.
• Follows all procedures accurately and performs all test procedures accurately.

• Performs Quality Control according to Laboratory protocol.
• Documents Quality Control and corrective action when needed.
• Follows laboratory procedure when Quality Control fails.
• Applies knowledge of test interrelationships to ensure results are accurate.

• Completes all hospital requirements at designated times (e.g., annual assessments, educational requirements, MedNetTra).
• Conforms to policies regarding confidentiality of information.
• Follows call-in procedure when sick, late, or absent.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology including a clinical internship, or a BS in a related discipline with one year of supervised clinical laboratory experience.
• NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or eligibility.
• Analytical skills necessary to analyze data and perform mathematical calculations.
• Basic knowledge of computer fundamentals and experience with laboratory information systems.
• Technical skills necessary to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation and perform routine and complex testing.
• Ability to effectively communicate detailed data and procedures.
• Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to perform supervisory responsibilities.

Required Licenses

• Clinical Lab Technologist – NYS License.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $99,938.48 - $114,113.48 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
