About the role
The Color Lab Technician prepares color samples for evaluation and formulation to support the Refinish Color Matching team in a laboratory environment. This role focuses on mixing wet paint, reducing and spraying paint samples, and performing general preparation and cleanup of lab areas to ensure accurate, high-quality color sample production.
Responsibilities
- Prepare color samples for evaluation and formulation in support of the Refinish Color Matching team.
- Mix wet paint according to detailed formulations and recipes provided by the Color Matcher.
- Acquire color formulations from the Color Matcher and accurately prepare sample mixtures based on the specified paint formulations.
- Ensure precise dispensing, labeling, and tracking of all color lab paint samples.
- Obtain wet paint samples from mixing stations and spray samples according to predefined specifications and standards.
- Perform both mixing and spraying functions to meet production demands and throughput requirements.
- Maintain laboratory equipment in clean, orderly condition and follow established cleanup procedures for lab areas.
- Follow all laboratory safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment and respirators.
- Support general lab preparation activities, including organizing materials, maintaining supplies, and preparing workstations for daily operations.
Requirements
- Experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably with wet chemistry, paint, pigments, or related materials.
- Exposure to chemistry or biology sufficient to understand basic lab processes and safety procedures.
- Ability to accurately mix, dispense, and label paint and chemical samples following detailed formulations and recipes.
- Comfort working in fast-paced, on-your-feet environments with consistent production demands.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining clean and organized lab equipment and work areas.
- Ability to follow predefined specifications for spraying paint samples and operating related equipment.
- Eligibility to work under export control requirements.
- Must be clean-shaven for proper respirator fitting and use.
- Safety shoes are required; all other personal protective equipment will be provided.
Qualifications
- Associate (AS) or Bachelor’s (BS) degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field is preferred.
- Candidates without a degree are acceptable with a steady work history and good tenure in previous roles, particularly in fast-paced, physically active environments.
- Experience handling paints, pigments, or similar materials in an industrial or laboratory setting is beneficial.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and use of personal protective equipment.
Schedule
- Night shift: 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
- Training during the first month will take place on first or second shift (second shift preferred but either acceptable).
Pay
$20.00 - $20.00/hr.
