About the role

Under the direction of laboratory manager and senior staff, conduct routine and non-routine analysis of samples via various methodologies to identify and/or confirm sample quality and/or variation. Perform laboratory tests and assist in the analysis of samples. Calibrate, operate, maintain and may assist in troubleshooting instrumentation and equipment in the laboratory. Collect, reduce and evaluate data. Enter data into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Prepare various reports and assist in procedural development and modification. Assist in analyzing and evaluating technical problems, in developing experimental outlines and in scheduling analyses. May assist in developing new and revised procedures and techniques. Help prepare reagents, standards and stock chemicals as needed. Perform routine housekeeping jobs to support overall cleanliness of the laboratory. Use basic laboratory equipment such as pipettes, balances, hotplates, ovens and furnaces to perform lab tasks.

  • Absorb and evaluate technical problems, in developing experimental outlines and in scheduling analyses.
  • May assist in developing new and revised procedures and techniques.
  • Help prepare reagents, standards and stock chemicals as needed.
  • Perform routine housekeeping jobs to support overall cleanliness of the laboratory.
  • Use basic laboratory equipment such as pipettes, balances, hotplates, ovens and furnaces to perform lab tasks.

Requirements

Must follow written procedures and function independently after proper training. Job may require work with beryllium, radioactive contamination or bioaasay material.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in chemistry or related discipline with 2 years college chemistry.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • OR 6 or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
