About the Role
The Laboratory Technician performs a variety of testing duties to analyze and assess the mechanical, chemical, and physical properties of various materials.
Responsibilities
- Sample Preparation and Testing: Prepare test samples for analysis and perform various tests, such as chemical analysis, tensile tests, hardness tests, electrical conductivity, and microscopic examinations.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Record test results and generate reports.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accurate data measurements.
- Quality Control: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Following Safety Procedures: Adhere to safety protocols and regulations in the laboratory.
- Metallurgical and Chemical Testing: Conduct chemical analysis and metallurgical testing on metal samples, including grain size determination and hydrogen embrittlement testing per established procedures. Test mica per recognized standards.
- Data Reporting: Report data findings as established and issue DMRs (Defective Material Reports) when necessary.
- Sample Preparation: Prepare samples for testing using techniques like milling, polishing, etching for metallography, and other sample preparations as needed.
- Microscopic Examination: Examine metal samples using optical microscopes.
- Equipment Calibration and Maintenance: Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment. Perform limited preventive maintenance as established by the equipment manufacturer and internal requirements.
Requirements
- Education: An Associate's degree in Material Science or similar related experience.
- Experience: Previous experience in materials testing, laboratory work, or metal processing.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently while minimizing delays to production.
- Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and related software.
- Experience with Microsoft products and company ERP systems.
- Good written and verbal communication skills for reporting and collaborating with other professionals.
This role operates on the 3rd shift.
