Pay

Typical hiring wage - $18.27/hr at Step 1 to $22.33/hr at Step 5, dependent on qualifications.

Schedule

• 40 hours / week
• Monday, Tuesday: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
• Wednesday: 8:00 am – 6:30 pm
• Thursday: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
• Friday: 8:00 am – 2:30 pm

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and manages laboratory services within the Clinic in collaboration with the contracted Laboratory Director.
• Collaborates with the Nursing Clinic Coordinator to plan and develop laboratory services for children and adults.
• Manages and provides laboratory services according to clinic protocols and procedures.
• Performs phlebotomy services, including vena-punctures and finger-sticks on adults and children.
• Performs microscopic exams, urine and serum pregnancy tests, pap tests, hemoglobin tests, urine dipsticks, Alere rapid HIV tests, IGRA/QuantiFERON blood tests for tuberculosis screening, urine collection for chlamydia/gonorrhea testing, throat and rectal cultures, sputum specimens for tuberculosis and herpes, and stool cultures for parasites, ova, and bacteria.
• Prepares client specimens for send-out evaluation to designated licensed laboratories.
• Maintains laboratory equipment and completes required controls with appropriate documentation.
• Orders necessary supplies.
• Assists the Laboratory Director with maintaining survey updates, two-year State of Kansas inspections for CLIA licensure, and the development/implementation of laboratory procedures and policies.
• Analyzes statistical data and trends for cost-effectiveness and identifies opportunities for improvement.
• Compiles statistics and data for Nursing Clinic programs monthly and quarterly.
• Maintains laboratory certifications, classes, and updates.
• Reports to work during public health emergencies as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year of laboratory experience; phlebotomy experience required.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Professional demeanor and ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public.
• Proven ability to plan and organize work.
• Flexibility to adapt to different tasks.

Physical Requirements

• Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and/or negligible to 10 pounds constantly.
• Ability to communicate verbally and hear.
• May require walking, standing, bending, balancing, sitting, lifting equipment, and stooping.
• May lift, push, carry, or pull up to 50 pounds.
• Possible exposure to infectious pathogens, blood, body fluids, and hazardous waste.
• May work outside of health department buildings in all weather conditions.
• May be subjected to highly volatile and stressful situations involving clients and/or families.
• Occasional weekend, evening, or on-call work may be required.
• Must have fine and gross motor skills.
• Must be able to operate a computer, telephone, and copy/fax machine.
