Laboratory Technician

About the Role

The Laboratory Technician will ensure all tests and experiments are carried out effectively and accurately, maintaining compliance with safety regulations and appropriate standards (ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, etc.). This position assists in the preparation of reports and presentations.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel).
• Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding project requirements, testing, and results.
• Transport material samples with associated identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis.
• Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Field Services Team Lead.
• Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
• Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
• Under close supervision, learn and assist with tasks, perform basic testing and observations, and provide clear documentation of findings.
• Communicate information to the Project Manager and discuss data accuracy in preparation for submittal.
• Follow safety rules and practices, perform pre-task planning, and report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Maintain quality and safety standards on all projects.
• Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in construction materials testing and inspection services preferred.
• Proficient in interpreting and adhering to ASTM/AASHTO standards, preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Skills

• Effective communication skills for positive interaction with project team members and clients.
• Exceptional organizational abilities and adept at handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Capable of conducting lab testing tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and samples (25–50 pounds regularly, up to 85 pounds occasionally).
• Able to perform duties involving prolonged standing and repetitive movements.
• Proficient in completing assignments within specified guidelines and deadlines.
• Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Manual dexterity and coordination for operating equipment such as keyboards, mice, calculators, and similar machines.

Work Environment
