Laboratory Technician

At Master Builders Solutions New Zealand, we’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our team based in Albany, Auckland.

In this role, you'll work closely with technical, operations, and client teams to conduct laboratory testing, maintain quality standards, and support innovation through research and product evaluation. As a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for preparing and testing mortar and concrete samples, maintaining laboratory equipment, managing test data, and supporting quality and research initiatives. This is a hands-on role that combines scientific testing, technical problem-solving, and laboratory management in a safety-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and test mortar and concrete samples in accordance with New Zealand and Australian standards.
- Evaluate the performance and compatibility of chemical admixtures and construction materials.
- Operate laboratory mixing and testing equipment.
- Prepare, cure, and store test specimens.
- Ensure traceability through accurate sample identification and record keeping.
- Manage laboratory inventory, including raw materials, aggregates, and consumables.
- Maintain, calibrate, and verify laboratory equipment.
- Coordinate sample preparation, labelling, and dispatch.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment.
- Support research and development projects through accurate testing and analysis.
- Assist in investigating product performance and technical issues.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across technical, operations, and sales functions.
Requirements
- Degree in a Scientific Discipline, or Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, or Diploma in Laboratory Technology.
- Experience in laboratory testing, materials testing, or a related technical environment.
- Experience in mortar, grout, concrete, or construction materials testing is highly regarded.
- Approximately 3+ years' experience in a similar role preferred.
- Ability to safely handle and test materials weighing up to 25kg.
- Strong attention to detail and data integrity.
- Understanding of scientific testing methods and laboratory procedures.
- Full NZ driving license.
