About the role
The Laboratory Technician supports the laboratory technical staff in specimen procurement, processing, and drug screen lab testing.
Responsibilities
- Accurately labels and distributes specimens to ensure integrity.
- Accessions specimens into the EMR system according to prescribed guidelines.
- Processes and prepares specimens for shipping and testing.
- Tracks specimen samples in the EMR system for inventory purposes.
- Carefully maintains the lab work area, furnishings, and equipment.
- Ensures samples are appropriate for testing and conducts necessary maintenance and quality control.
- Performs drug screen testing and adheres to CLIA and company policies.
- Maintains confidentiality and follows HIPAA rules and OSHA standards.
- Works independently and collaboratively, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
- Participates in required trainings and in-services.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Medical Lab Technician certification.
- Knowledge of Internet and Microsoft Office software.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including exceptional customer service.
- Ability to work individually and within a team.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Working knowledge of the healthcare field and medical terminology.
Qualifications
- One year of prior experience in a laboratory setting.
- One year of prior experience with a Laboratory Information System (LIS).
