Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician Assistant 1 (LTA 1) to join the team.
Schedule
Full-time day shift: Monday–Friday, every other weekend, 04:00 am–12:30 pm.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrate understanding of and perform all procedures for obtaining, preparing, and packaging specimens for transport
- Evaluate specimens for acceptability per policy (volume, labeling, proper documentation for QA)
- Provide correct containers to patients with preservatives when needed, along with instructions for return of samples
- Verify collection technique, total volume, and correctness
- Participate in continuing educational requirements by attending meetings and responding to instructional emails
- Attend 75% of all department meetings and read minutes of 100% of staff meetings and communications
- Complete Inova educational requirements and annual skills review by deadline
- Manage specimen accessioning and processing accurately and efficiently to provide quality specimens for laboratory testing
- Ensure specimens collected by special procedure are handled properly per facility policy (irretrievable specimens, pathology specimens, 24-hour urine, cultures, chain of custody collections, newborn screens, etc.)
- Obtain all proper documentation to establish correct patient identity
- Perform patient registration, billing, and test order procedures accurately and efficiently to ensure correct testing, reporting, billing, and regulatory compliance
- Accurately enter patient demographics, billing information, and test orders according to written physician orders and information from customer insurance cards
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- No prior experience required
- Basic Life Support certification within 3 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Laboratory experience
- Work experience in a healthcare setting
