This full-time position involves day shifts (0600-1430) with rotating weekends. You will work closely with the Lab Supervisor to ensure quality work and perform bench duties across all laboratory departments.

Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital providing medical and surgical services, critical and emergency care, pediatric emergency care, diagnostic and treatment services, heart and vascular care, and stroke and lung cancer screening. The Laboratory Department offers a wide variety of assays and procedures, including phlebotomy, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, point-of-care, and pathology for both inpatients and outpatients.

Role Purpose

Coordinates the technical activities of the department, including inventory management, research and development, technical procedures, policies, and CAP readiness. Performs routine and complex testing on blood and other specimens and acts as a resource for staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses workload, prioritizes work, makes staffing adjustments, and assists staff when needed.
  • Coordinates and reviews schedules with supervisors and coordinators to ensure adequate staffing for shifts.
  • Ensures maintenance of laboratory services and quality in accordance with prescribed standards, government, and accreditation agencies.
  • Takes responsibility for daily operations, both technically and administratively, to ensure quality services.
  • Coordinates with lab supervisors and frontline staff to meet laboratory goals, improve quality service, and reduce costs.
  • Develops appropriate QA monitors with supervisors and implements processes to ensure quality. Evaluates data, identifies problems, and recommends solutions.
  • Teaches and trains new and established staff members and Clinical Laboratory Scientist students in routine and specialized laboratory techniques. Participates in competency assessment of staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical/Life Science or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Certification as MT/MLS (ASCP) or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of laboratory experience.
  • Less than 2 years of supervisor experience.
  • Certification or licensure in area of expertise.
