About the role
Under the direct supervision of the Biorepository Manager, the Biorepository Technician – I supports and implements the Biorepository Program. This program monitors and maintains all equipment associated with cryogenic storage of HCT/Ps, controls movement and inventory of cryopreserved HCT/Ps, and supports release activities.
Responsibilities
- Performs inventory management, including receiving, assessment, storage, transferring, and distribution of medical specimens/devices.
- Adheres to strict guidelines when handling specimens/devices during inventory management.
- Performs shipping and receiving functions, including picking/packing, serial/lot number verification, package preparation, scanning, courier interaction, and shipment tracking.
- Responds to biorepository alert systems with appropriate follow-up action.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect specimen integrity and either corrects them or notifies the supervisor.
- Performs on-call duties and responses to biorepository alert systems.
- Monitors and maintains all biorepository-related equipment, including bulk LN2 supply equipment.
- Performs quality control checks on biorepository-related equipment.
- Interacts with and updates databases related to biorepository functions.
- Provides administrative support by producing reports and maintaining records associated with biorepository functions.
- Adheres to strict safety guidelines and handles liquid nitrogen (LN2) using personal protective equipment and good safety practices.
- Assists in external/internal audit preparations as required.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties and projects as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required; Associate degree (AS) in chemical, biological, or medical sciences preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in a professional setting; 1 year in a similar setting preferred.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
- Must be able to perform basic arithmetic.
- Must be detail-oriented and able to follow written instructions in standard operating procedures.
- Must be proficient in MS Office applications, especially MS Excel.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and crouch.
- Must be able to lift at least 54 pounds.
Work Environment
- Works mostly in climate-controlled environments in both office and laboratory settings.
- Handles product stored at cryogenic temperatures as low as -198°C.
- May come in minimal contact with bloodborne pathogens, infectious substances, toxic or dangerous chemicals, and liquid nitrogen.
