About the role

The Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division of the DOM is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team. This position is based at multiple locations including Bridgeside Point, BST, UPMC Hospitals, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Performs DNA and RNA isolation, genotyping analysis, protein extraction, and multiplex immunoassay platforms.
  • Conducts gene promoter activity analysis, cell culture, plasmid transfection, virus transduction, and basic cellular function measurements.
  • Generates genetically modified cell lines using CRISPR-Cas9 system.
  • Utilizes multiplex immunoassay platforms (including MSD, Bio-Plex) for biomarker and cytokine analysis.
  • Performs machine maintenance procedures such as calibration and validation.
  • Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.
  • Maintains inventory, orders, and logs.
  • Collaborates with other researchers and staff regarding laboratory procedures and experiments.
  • Works closely with the Lab Manager for assay development and protocol.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with TECAN.
  • Experience with DNA and RNA isolation, genotyping analysis, protein extraction, and multiplex immunoassay platforms.
  • Basic cell culture and co-culture, plasmid transfection, virus transduction, and basic cellular function measurements.
  • Experience with gene promoter activity analysis using luciferase reporter system.
  • Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 system for generating genetically modified cell lines.
  • Physical ability to sit/stand for up to 8 hours a day.

  • Must be able to sit/stand for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Must be familiar with TECAN.
  • Must have experience with DNA and RNA isolation, genotyping analysis, protein extraction, and multiplex immunoassay platforms.
  • Must have experience with gene promoter activity analysis using luciferase reporter system.
  • Must have experience with CRISPR-Cas9 system for generating genetically modified cell lines.
