Work Shifts

4:00 P.M – 12:00 A.M; Rotating Weekends & Holidays. *[35 Hours per Week.]*

Duties & Responsibilities

• Purpose of Position: Supervises, directs, trains, assigns work to, establishes schedules for work completion, and reviews and evaluates work performance of personnel in a large laboratory or more than one small laboratory, performing tests and complex procedures in laboratory specialties and subspecialties; supervises and directs laboratory staff in a water pollution control laboratory in the performance of laboratory tests for fecal matter and microscopic algae; performs biochemical, plankton, zooplankton and other species of analyses.
• At a higher level, performs the typical tasks of Assignment Level I, II, and III.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED.
• For Appointment to Levels IV and V: In addition to meeting the qualification requirement of Assignment Level II, candidates must also meet one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined in Title 10, Section 58-1.4 of the New York Public Health Law.

Special Notes

Qualifying experience is not limited to New York State. Candidates that are solely licensed or issued permits to practice as cytotechnologists or histotechnologists may only be assigned work, including supervising personnel performing laboratory work, in a laboratory discipline/specialty appropriate to their license or permit. Candidates that are licensed or hold permits to practice as clinical laboratory technologists may be assigned work, including supervising personnel performing laboratory work, in all laboratory disciplines/specialties.
