Laboratory Microbiologist
About the role
You will serve as Lead for simple projects as assigned and be responsible for evaluating, explaining, and completing the test report for samples. This is a Weekend Rotational Shift position; you will work every third weekend.
Responsibilities
- Follow defined test plans and datasheets with necessary supervision/support.
- Evaluate test performance and sample operation to properly assess test results.
- Record and explain test results, then complete test reports.
- Serve as Lead for simple test programs as assigned, with necessary assistance.
- Communicate project status and results as needed.
- Define test plans, ensure report accuracy, meet agreed deadlines, and manage project-related activities.
- Examine customer samples and learn to operate appropriate tests for each case with support.
- Communicate with internal customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation.
- Direct, build, and/or adapt simple test setups, sample preparations/solutions, and instruments to new situations based on test plans and instructions.
- Train other lab staff on test procedures or instruments.
- Operate and maintain test instruments to measure and test samples.
- Perform maintenance on designated test instruments and laboratory area.
- Integrate basic process and instrument improvements into all aspects of the job for a single testing technology.
- Communicate with management and technical staff to suggest new instruments, processes, and forms to improve accuracy and efficiencies.
- Understand and follow safe chemical and microbiological hygiene practices.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct, and adhere to all physical and digital security practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma from an accredited university; a major in Microbiology, General Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional customer service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to successfully partner with Engineering and other Laboratory Personnel to complete projects in a timely manner with high quality.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze special testing needs.
- Demonstrated ability to be innovative and creative.
- Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing.
Pay
The estimated salary range for this position is $48,900.00–$65,100.00, based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical location. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary.
