Microbiologist
for sections like About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule. Use - for any list of duties/requirements/benefits, and
for prose. Do NOT repeat job title as heading. Do NOT put Job ID/requisition numbers as headings. Preserve all substantive info; do not invent or summarize away detail. Remove boilerplate: cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning, duplicated lines, application instructions. Include a section ONLY when posting has real, specific content for it — never emit heading followed by filler/placeholder text (e.g., "commensurate with experience", "not specified", "N/A", "varies", "TBD") and never create Pay/Schedule/Benefits sections unless posting actually states them.
We need to parse the posting.
Key sections:
- Intro: "Work for Indiana Begin a fulfilling career with the State of Indiana..." This is generic intro about state. Might be considered boilerplate? It's about the employer, not role specifics. Could be considered part of "About the role"? But we need to preserve substantive info. The instruction: remove cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning boilerplate, duplicated lines, and application instructions. The intro about state may be considered generic but not boilerplate; it's part of the posting. However we need to decide if we keep it. The instruction: "Preserve ALL substantive information; do NOT invent or summarize away detail." So we should keep it, but we need to format it appropriately. Likely we can put it in a
under maybe an "About the role" heading? But there is already a section "About The Indiana Department Of Health (IDOH)" which is more specific. The intro about state could be considered part of "About the role" or maybe we can just keep as a paragraph before headings.
We need headings only for sections with real specific content. Let's identify content:
- About The Indiana Department Of Health (IDOH) – mission description. That's a heading candidate: "About the role"? Actually "About the role" is generic; but we have specific "About The Indiana Department Of Health (IDOH)". Could map to "About the role" heading? The instruction says use
for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). So we should use those exact headings? It says use for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). Likely we should use those headings where appropriate. So we need to map content to those headings.
Thus:
- About the role: could include description of IDOH mission and role overview. So we can put that under About the role
.
- Responsibilities: list of duties from "A Day In The Life" bullet list (the essential functions). Also maybe other duties like coordinate preparation, etc. So we can put those as - under Responsibilities.
- Requirements / Qualifications: The "What You'll Need For Success" includes knowledge, abilities, education, etc. Also "Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports" maybe part of qualifications? Could be separate but we can include under Requirements or Qualifications. The instruction says we can have both Requirements and Qualifications sections if content exists. We have both knowledge/abilities and education/experience. Could split: Requirements (knowledge, abilities, certification) and Qualifications (education, experience). Or we could combine. But we need to avoid thin sections. Let's see if we have enough for both.
What You'll Need For Success includes:
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of microbiology and related sub-specialties.
- Ability to meet requirements for personnel certification as a general supervisor pursuant to the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988.
- Thorough knowledge of, and the ability to apply, accepted or unprecedented laboratory problems. (some weird phrasing)
- Broad knowledge of, and ability to use, complex and specialized technical/scientific equipment and automated techniques of analysis.
- Broad knowledge of laboratory safety practices and principles.
- Specialized knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and policies concerning the program area.
- Ability to satisfactorily participate in proficiency testing programs.
- Ability to compile, analyzes, evaluate and present laboratory data to physicians, veterinarians, public health staff and professional organizations.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- A Bachelor’s degree in a biological, chemical, or physical science, with at least 2 years of relevant testing experience.
- For roles performing CLIA‑regulated high‑complexity testing, the degree must meet CLIA educational requirements.
- Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. (duplicate)
Also "Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs."
Thus we can have:
- Requirements: knowledge, abilities, certification, safety, laws, proficiency testing, data presentation, accommodation.
- Qualifications: education (Bachelor's degree + 2 years experience), CLIA degree requirement, supervisory potential.
Skills: maybe we could list technical skills? Not explicitly. Could omit Skills if no specific list.
Benefits: The posting includes "Benefits Of Employment With The State Of Indiana" with list of benefits. So we need a Benefits section.
Pay: The posting includes "Salary The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package." This includes a specific starting salary. So we should include Pay section with that info. However note instruction: never create Pay/Schedule/Benefits sections unless posting actually states them. It does state salary, so we can include Pay. However we must avoid filler like "commensurate with education and work experience" which is vague but still part of the statement. It's not placeholder like "commensurate with experience" is allowed? The instruction says never emit a heading followed by filler/placeholder text (e.g. "commensurate with experience", "not specified", "N/A", "varies", "TBD"). So we cannot have a Pay section that only says "commensurate with education and work experience" without a concrete number. But we do have a concrete starting salary: $53,222.00. So we can include that. The phrase "may be commensurate with education and work experience" is additional detail but not filler; it's okay.
Schedule: The posting does not mention schedule (hours, shift, etc). There is mention of exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period etc. That's about overtime exemption, not schedule. No explicit schedule like full-time, part-time, shift. So we should not create Schedule section.
Thus sections: About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Benefits, Pay.
We need to output only HTML fragment, no /, no markdown.
We need to use
for each section heading. Use - for any list of duties/requirements/benefits. Use
for prose.
We must not repeat job title as heading. Not include Job ID/requisition numbers.
We must remove boilerplate: EEO statement, etc. Also remove duplicated lines, application instructions (like "Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package." That's not exactly application instruction but maybe considered a call to action; but it's part of Pay description. Might keep as part of Pay paragraph.
We need to preserve all substantive info. Let's extract.
First, About the role: combine the intro about state and IDOH mission and role overview.
Paragraph: "Work for Indiana Begin a fulfilling career with the State of Indiana by joining one of the largest employers in the state, offering a range of opportunities across 60+ agencies. At the state, you'll find competitive compensation, a robust benefits package and a commitment to work-life balance. Most importantly, you'll have the chance to make a real and measurable impact on the lives of Hoosiers across Indiana."
Then about IDOH: "The Indiana Department of Health’s mission is to promote, protect, and improve the health and safety of all Hoosiers so that they can reach their optimal health regardless of where they live, learn, work, or play."
Role Overview: "Working for Indiana Department of Health Labs (IDOHL) is a great opportunity to develop and expand your laboratory skills while supporting your neighbors throughout the state of Indiana. Located on the outskirts of downtown Indianapolis, IDOHL Serology assists with the testing and surveillance of HIV, hepatitis, STIs, and various outbreak organisms within high-risk demographic groups. The microbiologist will work closely with submitting facilities, CDC, and other laboratories to ensure that quality specimens are submitted, tested, and reported in a timely fashion. The microbiologist in this position will support the HIV, Hepatitis, Immunization and related public health programs of IDOH by performing serological surveillance and outbreak testing for HIV, Hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections (syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea), arboviruses (West Nile virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis), and vaccine preventable diseases (measles and mumps). Other key testing functions in the Serology Lab include specimen receiving and results entry into the laboratory information system, reagent inventory monitoring, and data analysis. The microbiologist may be cross trained in other departments where they will maintain competency in other methods to serve as support during outbreak response by IDOH. The microbiologist will also be responsible for the documentation of all quality control and quality assurance associated with these assays in compliance with CLIA regulations."
We can combine into a few paragraphs.
Now Responsibilities: list from "A Day In The Life". Let's extract each bullet:
- Conduct procedures of clinical specimens and/or reference samples/food samples/environmental samples for serological analysis or isolation and identification of micro-organisms or their antigens/nucleic acids.
- Evaluate, interpret, and validate laboratory results and reports findings to the submitter.
- Organize and plan identification schemes for examination of organisms not fitting regular schemes.
- Evaluate quality control checks on laboratory methods, materials, and equipment.
- Coordinate the preparation of media, reagents, stains, supplies and other materials used in the transport, examination, and analysis process.
- Prepare epidemiological and statistical reports from data compiled on a daily, weekly, monthly, or annual basis.
- Development, preparation and updating of procedural manuals on methods, instrumentation, and quality assurance.
- Participate in training programs as a planner or instructor at workshops and conferences for private and public laboratory personnel.
- Initiate special research projects designed to test and improve microbiological methods and procedures.
- Participate in testing evaluation of new products used in clinical/reference laboratory work.
- Work with local laboratories and other health department staff to ensure their use of adequate materials, techniques, methods, and procedures.
- May appear at legal proceedings as an expert witness.
- The job profile is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
- This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work.
- Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
We need to decide if we include the last two bullet points about exempt status. They are about compensation/exempt status, not exactly duties but could be considered responsibilities? Might be better to keep them under Responsibilities as they are part of job description. However they are about overtime exemption; could be considered part of Pay or Schedule? But we have no Schedule. Might be okay to include under Responsibilities as they are job expectations.
We should not include duplicated lines. There's a duplicated line about ability to perform essential functions with or without
