• Shift 1: 5:00 - 13:30
• Shift 2: 14:00 - 22:30

Responsibilities

• Aseptic technique
• Proper labeling
• Standard precautions
• Prioritize patient collections based on order request (stat, timed, routine)
• Process specimens for laboratory (centrifuge, aliquot, storage)
• Deliver specimens to laboratory in a timely manner
• Perform pediatric phlebotomy procedures (heel stick)
• General venipuncture using syringe method
• Special collection procedures (blood culture, hand-held collection devices)

Professional Knowledge and Skills

• CLSI recommended order of blood draws
• Use of equipment such as blood culture bottles and centrifuges
