Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist

The Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in the Clinical Laboratory Services department at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. The position involves receiving, processing, and preparing patient specimens for analysis, assisting medical technologists with various tasks, and performing clerical duties such as data entry and answering phones.

Responsibilities

• Receive, process, and prepare patient specimens for analysis, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
• Assist medical technologists with various tasks, maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment.
• Perform clerical duties such as data entry, answering phones, and managing incoming and outgoing lab reports.
• Maintain supply inventory, order new materials, and ensure equipment is functioning correctly.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• WA State Department of Health Medical Assistant - Phlebotomy certification
• May also require certification of training in Infectious Substance shipping outlined by the Dangerous Goods Regulations
• Excellent customer service and patient relations skills
• Knowledge of anatomy, venous systems, proper specimen collection techniques and use of blood tubes
• Knowledge of safety guidelines and basic medical and laboratory terminology
• General computer knowledge is needed

Pay

The posted compensation range of $27.99 - $41.00 / hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting.

Schedule

The schedule is variable, with Day shifts and Night shifts available. The position is part-time (PRN).
