Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist

1st Shift, 8:30am-5:00pm, Full Time (1.0 FTE), every other weekend and holiday rotation. Salary range: $15.87–$23.81 per hour.

About the role

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the operation and organization of the Central Collection department and for carrying out the philosophy and objectives established by the Board of Directors and the Management Team. Key responsibilities include strict adherence to detail in laboratory procedures, solving practical problems, resolving conflict, and implementing constructive change.

Responsibilities

• Phlebotomy
  • Performs venous, arterial, and capillary blood collection, processing, and delivery of specimens within Trinity Laboratory.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail in following protocol for patient, sample identification, and labeling.
  • Educates others and maintains knowledge of departmental functions, policies, and procedures, including AIDET and Focus values.
  • Assists with training new employees and supports the teaching of new associates.
• Quality Assurance
  • Complies with procedures and services, including QA guidelines, in consultation with the assigned laboratory supervisor.
  • Performs technical procedures within specified turnaround time for assigned area.
  • Executes and monitors technical practices of the department to meet necessary standards, recommendations, and requirements of voluntary and government agencies (e.g., CAP, JCAHO).

Requirements

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy course, Medical Assistant, or Associate of Arts preferred.
• Experience: Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Communication skills, including reading, writing, and speaking fluent English.
  • Adaptability, customer/patient focus, interpersonal skills, and self-development.
• Lifting Requirements: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
