Laboratory Assistant - Mornings

About the role

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures for blood tests
• Knows all safety requirements
• Receives and distributes specimens in the laboratory
• Processes specimens for testing, storage, and sends to reference laboratories
• Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and limitations of testing procedures
• Performs waived testing as required
• Demonstrates knowledge about the functionality of the Lab's automation line
• Acts as a resource for laboratory information
• Ensures timeliness of specimen collections and addresses contamination issues

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent
• Some knowledge of medical terminology
• 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a phlebotomy certificate with 32 hours of clinical rotation, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood or blood processing, or current MLT student in clinical rotations, or one or more college level courses in a biological science (equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained throughout employment

Compensation & Benefits

• $15.45-$25.24/hr depending on previous work experience
• Position qualifies for $1.75/hr night shift differential
