About the role

The Lab Assistant performs the pre-analytic phases of laboratory testing procedures and may also perform the analytic and post-analytic phases of waived testing procedures. Duties include face-to-face and telephone customer service, computer data entry and retrieval, workplace cleanliness, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Collects specimens for lab testing, including knowledge of special specimen collection and handling requirements for specific populations (e.g., infants, pediatric, and geriatric patients).
  • Processes specimens for lab testing according to laboratory procedures.
  • Performs computer data entry and retrieval, including accessioning specimens and entering results.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
  • Performs maintenance and waived testing, EKG testing.
  • Teaches phlebotomy students and employees.
  • Serves as a technical resource to help resolve problems and answer pre-analytical procedural questions.
  • Acts as a frontline resource to laboratory customers.
  • Assists in the review and updates of laboratory procedure manuals.
  • Ensures documentation of all activities, monitoring supplies, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements related to safety and lab testing.
  • Follows KP Laboratory policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certificate (Washington) or Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer service and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent completion of a phlebotomy program or recent phlebotomy and clinical laboratory experience.
  • Phlebotomy and clinical laboratory training.

Schedule

10-hour shift from 9:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 7 days a week followed by 7 days off.

Scheduled weekly hours: 35.

Shift: Night (Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tue).

Pay

$24.03 - $35.66 per hour.

Location

Central Campus South - Pathology/Lab, Seattle, Washington (onsite).
