Laboratory Assistant, Capitol Hill (30 hrs)

Performs the pre-analytic phases of laboratory testing procedures and may also perform the analytic and post-analytic phases of waived testing procedures. Duties include face-to-face and telephone customer service, computer data entry and retrieval, workplace cleanliness, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Collects specimens for lab testing, including knowledge of special specimen collection and handling requirements for specific populations (e.g., infants, pediatric, and geriatric patients).
• Processes specimens for lab testing according to laboratory procedures.
• Performs computer data entry and retrieval, including accessioning specimens and entering results.
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
• Performs maintenance tasks and waived testing, including EKG testing.
• Teaches phlebotomy to students and employees.
• Serves as a technical resource by helping resolve problems and answering pre-analytical procedural questions.
• Acts as a frontline resource to laboratory customers.
• Assists in the review and updates of laboratory procedure manuals.
• Ensures documentation of all activities, monitors supplies, and complies with regulatory and accreditation requirements related to safety and lab testing.
• Follows KP Laboratory policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
• Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certificate (Washington) or Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) within 6 months of hire.
• Basic Life Support certification within 3 months of hire.
• Basic computer skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Customer service and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent completion of a phlebotomy program or recent phlebotomy and clinical laboratory experience.
• Phlebotomy and clinical laboratory training.

Schedule

• Part-time, 30 hours per week.
• Shift: Day, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
• Working hours: 08:00 AM – 06:30 PM.

Pay
