Laboratory Assistant, Capitol Hill (30 hrs)
Performs the pre-analytic phases of laboratory testing procedures and may also perform the analytic and post-analytic phases of waived testing procedures. Duties include face-to-face and telephone customer service, computer data entry and retrieval, workplace cleanliness, and maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Collects specimens for lab testing, including knowledge of special specimen collection and handling requirements for specific populations (e.g., infants, pediatric, and geriatric patients).
- Processes specimens for lab testing according to laboratory procedures.
- Performs computer data entry and retrieval, including accessioning specimens and entering results.
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
- Performs maintenance tasks and waived testing, including EKG testing.
- Teaches phlebotomy to students and employees.
- Serves as a technical resource by helping resolve problems and answering pre-analytical procedural questions.
- Acts as a frontline resource to laboratory customers.
- Assists in the review and updates of laboratory procedure manuals.
- Ensures documentation of all activities, monitors supplies, and complies with regulatory and accreditation requirements related to safety and lab testing.
- Follows KP Laboratory policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certificate (Washington) or Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) within 6 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification within 3 months of hire.
- Basic computer skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Customer service and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Recent completion of a phlebotomy program or recent phlebotomy and clinical laboratory experience.
- Phlebotomy and clinical laboratory training.
Schedule
- Part-time, 30 hours per week.
- Shift: Day, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
- Working hours: 08:00 AM – 06:30 PM.
Pay
