Responsibilities

  • Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures for blood tests while adhering to all safety requirements.
  • Receives and distributes specimens in the laboratory.
  • Processes specimens for testing, storage, and send-out to reference laboratories.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and limitations of testing procedures.
  • Performs waived testing as required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge about the functionality of the lab’s automation line.
  • Acts as a resource for laboratory information.
  • Ensures timeliness of specimen collections and minimizes contamination.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Some knowledge of medical terminology.
  • One of the following:
    • 3 months of phlebotomy experience,
    • a phlebotomy certificate with 32 hours of clinical rotation,
    • 6 months of experience in a medical field providing patient care, including drawing blood or blood processing,
    • current MLT student in clinical rotations, or
    • one or more college-level courses in a biological science.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be maintained throughout employment.

Pay

$15.45–$25.24 per hour, depending on previous work experience. Position qualifies for a $1.75 per hour night shift differential.

Schedule

Thursday–Saturday, 1800–0630 (night shift).

Position type: Regular Full Time.
