About the Role

The Laboratory Assistant will provide a wide range of laboratory services including specimen collection, client service and reception desk duties, ordering/scheduling/billing functions, laboratory testing, phlebotomy, dispatching, specimen processing, centrifuging, delivery of specimens to appropriate laboratory/department, and assuring proper efficiency and workflow management. This position will also serve as a resource for questions from hospital and clinic staff regarding specimen handling and processing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen collection and phlebotomy.
  • Handle client service and reception desk duties.
  • Manage ordering, scheduling, and billing functions.
  • Conduct laboratory testing and specimen processing.
  • Centrifuge and dispatch specimens to appropriate departments.
  • Ensure proper efficiency and workflow management.
  • Serve as a resource for hospital and clinic staff regarding specimen handling and processing.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet time-sensitive customer requests and adapt to changes on short notice.
  • If travel is required, must have a valid driver’s license and meet insurability requirements relating to Park Nicollet’s motor vehicle violation criteria.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent (preferred).
  • Experience in a medical-related field or an applied science degree (preferred).
  • Certification in phlebotomy and one year of hospital experience (preferred).
  • ASCP certification for phlebotomy (preferred).
