Laboratory Assistant

About the role

Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated medical campus that includes diagnostic centers, outpatient surgery, and a 24-hour emergency department. As part of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, this role supports diagnostic and consultative services that underpin world-class care. You will perform a variety of laboratory procedures, process samples, and help manage workflow within the lab, contributing to over 20 million tests annually.

The laboratory team at Martin North Hospital collaborates closely to achieve excellence and provides extensive on-site training and continuing education opportunities. This PRN position works Saturdays and Sundays from 4:00 AM – 12:30 PM. The primary work location is Martin North Hospital, with required floating to Martin South and Tradition Hospitals as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform various laboratory procedures.
• Assist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting, and storing specimens.
• Operate laboratory equipment and perform routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
• Perform quality assurance activities.
• Maintain adequate stock of supplies and manage inventory by transporting and distributing supplies.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of three months of on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation, and Cleveland Clinic policies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a laboratory setting.

Physical Requirements

• Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation.
• Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous, and other hazardous materials.
• Requires frequent sitting or standing.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

Hourly pay range for new hires: $20.80. The actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include applicable pay practices such as shift differentials or overtime.

Schedule

Saturdays and Sundays, 4:00 AM – 12:30 PM.
