NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi is a 457-bed teaching hospital affiliated with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The facility has earned numerous Center of Excellence designations, accreditation, and recognition for its renowned Level 1 Trauma Center, Burn Center, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, regional Stroke Center, Snakebite Treatment Center, Breast Health Center, Bariatric Surgery Center, and Cancer Service. The facility also offers the region’s only multi-person hyperbaric chamber, allowing up to nine patients to dive together at one time. Jacobi’s Ambulatory Care Pavilion is a modern, state-of-the-art environment complementing its inpatient acute care, providing high-quality service to patients.
Purpose of the Role
Under direct supervision, prepares specimens for analysis. Performs recordkeeping, data entry, and collection activities relating to patient specimens for diagnostic and treatment purposes using automated and/or manual systems.
Responsibilities
- Verifies identification of patient specimens and requests for tests.
- Sorts specimens with appropriate labeling and identification for distribution to designated laboratories for testing.
- Performs pertinent data entry and retrieval functions using automated and/or manual systems.
- Centrifuges and decants specimens.
- Maintains laboratory records in accordance with established procedures and protocols, including the generation, separation, sorting, and distribution of reports.
- Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and distributes supplies.
- Delivers laboratory results to designated areas and files results in patient’s medical records as assigned.
- Picks up specimens and laboratory requests, delivers specimens to laboratories for analysis, and distributes reports.
- Cleans and maintains equipment.
- Provides laboratory results in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
- Adheres to infection control guidelines and procedures.
Requirements
Graduation from a Senior High School or High School Equivalency Diploma and one year of experience in a laboratory environment performing related work as described in the position; or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
