Laboratory Assistant

About the role

This role supports plant disease surveys through fieldwork, greenhouse tasks, and laboratory testing. The work helps ensure accurate monitoring of plant health using various techniques.

Responsibilities

• Survey Support: Assist with statewide plant disease surveys and collect plant, water, and soil samples
• Field Navigation: Locate survey sites using maps or GPS tools and record field data in the survey app
• Lab Testing: Assist with laboratory tests after training, including sample processing and examinations
• Lab Maintenance: Complete tasks such as preparing solutions, washing glassware, and organizing supplies while keeping workspaces clean and disinfected
• Greenhouse Work: Water, fertilize, and transplant plants for diagnostic assays

Qualifications

• You must be in possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
• You must be willing and able to work in Dauphin County, PA.
• You must be willing to work a temporary, full-time schedule without benefits.
• You must have experience with Biology, Plant Science, or Molecular Biology in laboratory, greenhouse, or field work.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
