Principal Job Functions
- Maintains competency and proficiency with respect to all job related laboratory policies and procedures.
- Completes assigned tasks accurately and timely, adhering to all laboratory standards, policies and procedures.
- Accurately performs computer entry of patient demographic and testing information including specimen data collected by laboratory or other hospital staff.
- Responsible for specimen receiving and handling for in house and reference laboratory testing, which includes the use of centrifuges.
- Under the supervision of technical staff, performs waived laboratory testing (i.e. kit testing).
- Assists with pre-analytical processes to include preparation for various testing.
- Reviews Outpatient Requisitions for accurate / appropriate laboratory orders.
- Supply and equipment inventory ordering.
- Performs blood specimen collection from medical center inpatients and outpatients.
- Completes all mandatory safety training and follows all safety guidelines per written policies and procedures.
- Affords assistance in training new Phlebotomy and Laboratory Assistant employees.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to distinguish and discriminate between colors.
