About the role
The Laboratory Assistant 3 - Slide Room supports the organization and retrieval of pathology specimens by maintaining slide and block archives, ensuring accurate tracking, filing, and compliance with clinical and regulatory standards. They perform a variety of duties to support the maintenance of the slide and block archive and retrieval system in a busy clinical unit.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining the file system for anatomic pathology to ensure timely and accurate filing and retrieval of diagnostic slides and blocks.
- Accurately sort and file slides and blocks in numerical order.
- Monitor and process all requests related to entry and checkout of blocks and slides from the archives and clinical locations.
- Retrive and refil all returned material back to original locations.
- Cooordinatethe retention of material from grossing pathology to archive room.
- Maintain laboratory facilities and work areas.
- Orders supplies, equipment, and apparatus for laboratory experiments.
Requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Detail oriented; Ability to quickly learn and accurately navigate multiple new software applications, adapting efficiently to evolving workflows and technology platforms.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrates reliability and commitment, with consistent daily presence and punctuality, playing a vital role in daily operations.
Preferred Skills And Abilities
- Proven experience with CoPath Laboratory Information System (LIS) & EPIC.
- Prior experience working in a laboratory or clinical setting preferred, with familiarity in handling medical specimens, following safety protocols, and supporting diagnostic workflows.
- Familiarity with CAP, CLIA and HIPAA guidelines.
- Ability to lift between 50 and 60 lbs.
- Willing and able to walk long distances daily between specimen storage and clinical departments, including in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to bend, sit and stand for long periods of time.
Required Education and Experience
- Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education;
- or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree;
- or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field;
- or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
