Lab Assistant III
Job Summary
Performs blood specimen collection, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; performs CLIA waived laboratory tests, as requested. Processes anatomic pathology and cytology specimens; assists pathologists and histotechs, as needed. Supervises or leads lab assistant I and II positions, as requested.
Responsibilities

- Operate basic laboratory equipment, computers and medical software
- Accurate data entry into medical software
- Attention to detail to verify relevant data and process specimens ensuring appropriate specimens are handled, packaged and shipped to the designated laboratory according to established protocols and specimen integrity
- Understands the pre-analytical variables that affect laboratory specimens
- Correct application of laboratory medical terminology and measurements
- Organizational, planning, and prioritization skills to handle multiple tasks and accomplish work accurately and timely
- Demonstrates problem solving by taking the appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns
- Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high volume setting
Qualifications
- Minimum Requirements- Experience: 3 years of laboratory experience
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certifications: Phlebotomy Certification where state law requires.
- Preferred Requirements- Experience: Basic laboratory computer/lab information system experience preferred.
- Education: Associates degree in laboratory or medical related field from an accredited institution preferred.
- Certifications: Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar preferred
