About the Role

The Lab Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality laboratory support within the Occupational Health Clinic, with a primary focus on specimen collection and processing. This position requires a highly skilled phlebotomist who can work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy and excellent customer service. The individual will primarily perform venipuncture and specimen collection but will also be expected to cross-train in other clinical functions as needed to support clinic operations. Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) certification or experience is preferred.

  • Sorts, labels, and logs specimens and performs testing procedures in accordance with strict procedures.
  • Sorts and logs specimens, centrifugation, blood separations, and culture materials.
  • Performs venipuncture and skin puncture to collect specimens from patients.
  • Performs testing such as separating and centrifuging specimens, adding reagents to specimens, staining slides, tissue cultures, and DNA probe assays.
  • Transcribes and records test results.
  • Operates sterilizing equipment to decontaminate glassware.

The successful candidate must possess strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills and be able to adapt to the changing needs of the clinic while ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.

Requirements

Must have one of the following:

  • Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, or Military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, or Military experience

Skills

  • Strong phlebotomy and venipuncture skills with experience collecting a high volume of specimens.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with specimen processing, labeling, and chain-of-custody procedures preferred.
  • PFT certification or willingness to obtain certification preferred.
  • Willingness to cross-train in other clinical support functions.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and customer service skills.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this role is $54,000.00 to $68,000.00. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, and may vary from the posted range.

Schedule

Full-time, 1st shift. Relocation assistance is not available for this position. This role is not eligible for telework or travel.
