About the role
This position is for two identical roles supporting the Division of Comparative Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill. Responsibilities include daily care of research animals, facility maintenance, investigator support, and emergency duties during adverse weather or other emergencies. Weekend and holiday work is required occasionally on a rotating basis.
Responsibilities
- Daily care of research animals, including cage cleaning and sanitation
- Animal observation, handling, restraint, and treatments
- Investigator support and communication
- Facility maintenance and working with USDA-regulated species
- Emergency duties during adverse weather and/or other emergency situations
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Animal technician training
- Experience in a laboratory animal setting
- Working knowledge of breeding, weaning, and record-keeping
- Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) at the ALAT level or higher strongly preferred
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Ability to move/lift items weighing up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation
- Prolonged and/or repetitive reaching, bending, and twisting
