About the role
Under minimal supervision, performs duties related to the operation of the water and wastewater laboratory according to South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) regulations. Performs a variety of work involving the chemical and biological analysis of water and wastewater. May be required to serve as part of the hurricane stay-behind/early-return team, report to work, or work modified days/hours or schedules in response to adverse weather or other emergencies. May be required to be on-call for emergency response.
Responsibilities
- Perform chemical and biological analysis of water and wastewater
- Operate a variety of laboratory equipment and instruments used in plant operations
- Perform basic statistical calculations
- Serve as part of the hurricane stay-behind/early-return team as required
- Report to work or work modified schedules during adverse weather or other emergencies
- Be on-call for emergency response
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in water and wastewater laboratory operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Computer and instrumentation skills
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic statistical calculations
About the role (Chemist)
Under minimal supervision, performs duties related to the operation of the water and wastewater laboratory according to South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) regulations. Performs an extensive range of analytical tests for the chemical and biological analysis of water and wastewater including but not limited to gas chromatography, spectrometry, and particle imaging. May be required to serve as part of the hurricane stay-behind/early-return team, report to work, or work modified days/hours or schedules in response to adverse weather or other emergencies. May be required to be on-call for emergency response.
Requirements (Chemist)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in water and wastewater laboratory operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Computer and instrumentation skills
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic statistical calculations
