Labor Relations Manager

About the role

The Labor Relations Manager builds and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external affiliates, ensures effective, timely communication, and leads onsite staff while maintaining compliance with departmental processes.

Responsibilities

• Train and evaluate staff members
• Hire and terminate staff members
• Oversee administrative responsibility for scheduling and PTO
• Drive accountability and performance based upon defined KPIs
• Create and deliver management reports on key initiatives, metrics, opportunities, and risks
• Recommend and implement changes in service and/or operations strategies
• Quickly examine high volumes of documents and materials to assess completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards and specifications to meet time-sensitive union deadlines
• Ensure union guidelines are adhered to per Labor Association, compliance regulations, and customer contracts

Working Conditions

• On-call beyond normal office operating days and hours
• Fast-paced environment relying on cell phones, landlines, emails, and printed materials
• Occasional domestic travel required

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• 3 years of union labor relations or related experience
• Equivalent progressive business experience
• Competency in Excel, Access, and MS Word applications
• 3 years of experience with reporting systems and tools

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• 3 years of marine or related industry experience, including operations
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, internal and external stakeholders, and union workers
• Proactive, self-directed management approach
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to complete multiple tasks under tight, time-sensitive deadlines
• Good oral and written communication skills
• High level of internal and external customer service
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment
