About the role

As our Labor & Delivery Nurse at St. Francis Medical Center, you’ll guide patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby, with kindness and compassion. You will be part of the recovery and postpartum process, supporting families celebrating the arrival of a newborn and providing compassion and guidance during challenging moments. The Family Birth Center at St. Francis Medical Center is a 15-bed Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum Unit (single room maternity care) and a Level II Perinatal Center caring for patients from antepartum through postpartum. CHI Health St. Francis, established in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1887, is a regional referral center with over 100 physicians and 1,100 employees dedicated to building a healthier community.

Responsibilities

• Guide patients through labor and childbirth, focusing on mother and baby safety with kindness and compassion.
• Support recovery and postpartum care, celebrating newborn arrivals and providing compassion during challenging moments.
• Remain calm and sensitive to help patients through major life milestones.
• Triage walk‑ins to determine labor status, ruptured membranes, false alarms, etc.
• Support pregnant patients in labor including induction, epidural assistance (if needed), pain management, and fetal monitoring.
• Educate patients on interventions, procedures, medications (name and purpose), exams, and labor stages.
• Assess newborns and provide care.
• Communicate with the care management team, including anesthesiologists, physicians, patients, and families.

Requirements

• Graduate of an RN nursing program.
• Active RN licensure in the state of Nebraska.
• BLS through American Heart Association.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required within 6 months of hire.
