Labor and Employee Relations Consultant
Job Summary
UCSF is seeking an experienced Labor & Employee Relations Consultant to join their team. This senior-level role advises all levels of the organization on complex and high-impact labor and employee relations matters.
About the Role
- Provides strategic labor and employee relations counsel to leaders at all levels
- Independently manages highly complex and sensitive ER cases, assessing risk and recommending solutions
- Interprets and administers collective bargaining agreements and University policies
- Investigates and responds to grievances and complaints
- Designs and delivers training to managers on labor relations, performance management, and workplace best practices
- Promotes proactive employee relations strategies that reduce organizational risk
- Serves as a lead resource and subject matter expert within the department
Responsibilities
- Operates with significant independence and requires sound judgment in high-visibility and high-risk situations
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree in related area and six years of experience in labor and employee relations or related field
- Advanced knowledge of labor/employment law and the principles and techniques of labor negotiations
- Advanced knowledge of the principles of advocacy in order to represent the organization in complex and sensitive dispute forums
- Advanced knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and court decisions regarding employment related matters
- Specialized knowledge within labor relations field
- Skills necessary to bargain and represent the organization's interests effectively
- Ability to lead and mentor other labor relations professionals
- Advanced analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of organizational policies and procedures
- Advanced knowledge of functional area and understands how work impacts other areas in Human Resources and the organization
- Public sector, higher education

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
