Lab Technologist I or II (CBDI Hemostasis Thrombosis Lab)

Primary location: Burnet Campus, Cancer & Blood Disease Institute. Full-time day shift, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Conduct, direct, or assist in special projects, evaluations, experiments, or research.
• Participate in regularly scheduled cross-trained rotations and demonstrate continued competency in various sections of the Clinical Laboratory.
• Contribute to improving organizational performance by recommending areas or approaches for improvement, performing new procedures, collecting data, and providing input to department discussions.
• Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.
• Independently perform a variety of laboratory tests using appropriate skills and theory.
• Demonstrate competency of skills, operate instruments, perform checks, calibrations, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting from written guidelines.
• Perform and report Quality Control Procedures, identify Q.C. failures, and correct malfunctions.
• Prepare samples for analysis, store and preserve specimens, and prepare reagents.
• Assist with monitoring supply inventories, receive and stock supplies.
• Perform registration and sample collection as required by location.
• Perform routine procedures within respective discipline, including collection and analysis of data affecting patient care decisions.
• Assist with development of new procedures and updating existing procedures.
• Train bench personnel and students in bench procedures once proficient in basic and some advanced skills.
• Function as a key operator for testing systems, coordinating quality control, maintenance, and inventory management.
• Serve as superuser for the laboratory information system.
• Maintain strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders; respond to requests quickly and effectively.
• Identify, understand, and meet customer needs and expectations; communicate relevant information to stakeholders.
• Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, conferences, meetings, in-services, networking, literature, and seminars.
• Attend all mandatory training sessions and implement obtained knowledge into work.
• Assume responsibility for professional growth and development; participate in internal/external professional committees, agencies, or activities.
• Perform accurate, precise work with a consistently low error rate.
• Maintain awareness of sectional needs and contribute skills to meet those needs.
• Assume responsibility for actions, follow through tasks to completion, and comply with policies, guidelines, regulations, and accreditation standards.
• Document compliance as necessary and maintain compliance with CCHMC Core Standards and code of ethics.
• Ensure work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment.
• Participate in accreditation activities, including conducting standards assessments and evaluations for annual internal and external inspections.
• Perform a variety of routine and complex laboratory tests under the general direction of the Section Supervisor and leadership staff to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science or Associate’s degree in related science.
• 2+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 4 years of experience with an Associate’s degree.
• Any required license, certification, or registration.
• Preferred: Certified MLS or MLT through a national certifying agency.

Pay

Expected starting pay range: $27.33 - $34.85 per hour. Pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on-call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply. Annual pay may vary based on FTE status.
