Laboratory Technologist I or II

Primary location: Crestview Hills, Department: Crestview Labs. Full-time, 40 hours per week, evening shift.

Responsibilities

• Conduct, direct, or assist in special projects, evaluations, experiments, or research within the Clinical Laboratory.
• Participate in regularly scheduled cross-training rotations and demonstrate continued competency in various laboratory sections.
• Contribute to improving organizational performance by recommending areas for improvement, performing new procedures, collecting data, and providing input to department discussions.
• Assist in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.
• Independently perform a variety of laboratory tests using appropriate skills and theory.
• Demonstrate competency in operating instruments, performing checks, calibrations, preventative maintenance, and basic troubleshooting from written guidelines.
• Perform and report Quality Control (QC) procedures; identify QC failures and correct malfunctions.
• Prepare samples for analysis, store and preserve specimens, and prepare reagents.
• Assist with monitoring supply inventories, receiving and stocking supplies.
• Perform registration and sample collection as required by location.
• Perform routine procedures within respective discipline, including data collection and analysis affecting patient care decisions.
• Assist in developing new procedures and updating existing ones.
• Train bench personnel and students in bench procedures once proficient in basic and advanced skills.
• Function as a key operator for testing systems, coordinating quality control, maintenance, and inventory management activities.
• Serve as a superuser for the laboratory information system.
• Maintain strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders; respond to requests quickly and effectively.
• Identify, understand, and meet customer needs and expectations; communicate relevant information to stakeholders.
• Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, conferences, meetings, in-services, networking, literature, and seminars.
• Attend mandatory training sessions and implement obtained knowledge into work and departmental practices.
• Assume responsibility for professional growth and development; participate in internal/external professional committees or activities.
• Perform accurate, precise work with a consistently low error rate; maintain awareness of sectional needs and contribute skills accordingly.
• Assume responsibility for actions, follow through tasks to completion, and comply with applicable policies, guidelines, regulations, and accreditation standards.
• Maintain compliance with organizational core standards and code of ethics.
• Ensure work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment for employees, patients, and families.
• Participate in accreditation activities, including conducting standards assessments and evaluations for annual internal and external inspections.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science or Associate’s degree in a related science.
• 2+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 4 years of experience with an Associate’s degree.
• Any required license, certification, or registration.

Preferred: Certified MLS or MLT through a national certifying agency.
