Lab Technician - Microbiology
Performs microbiological procedures on cosmetic raw materials, bulk and finished goods to ensure compliance with company, industry, and government guidelines/regulations. Work is performed in the EL R&D Microbiology lab with exposure to Biosafety level 2 organisms, requiring uninterrupted focus to mitigate risks to the technician, product, and consumer.
Responsibilities
- Support scientists in the execution of microbiological studies, including sample preparation, plating, dilution, and microbial enumeration.
- Prepare equipment, glassware, and supplies in advance of experimental work to optimize scientist productivity.
- Make media and prepare and label test tubes and petri dishes for testing.
- Perform challenge tests to determine preservation effectiveness in research, pilot, and production samples.
- Perform microbiological tests on raw materials, bulk, and finished goods to determine microbiological content and composition.
- Assist in setting up and executing experiments and ensure readiness of materials and equipment.
- Support environmental monitoring and routine lab maintenance activities as required.
- Accurately document test results, observations, and deviations in laboratory systems and notebooks in accordance with data integrity standards.
- Work closely with scientists to understand experimental needs, timelines, and priorities; proactively anticipate laboratory needs to minimize delays in project execution.
- Follow all SOPs, GMP guidelines, and safety requirements in execution of laboratory activities.
- Review test results with immediate supervisor and maintain files and records.
- Manage laboratory inventory, including monitoring stock levels of media, reagents, consumables, and critical supplies.
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and traceability of materials in compliance with SOPs and data integrity requirements.
- Support periodic inventory checks, reconciliation, and audit readiness activities as required.
- Assist immediate supervisor in other functions and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 0-2 years of lab experience.
- Minimum Associate’s Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, or Biology.
- Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced laboratory with agility for change.
- Knowledge of Windows-based computer programs.
- Strong technical and interpersonal skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Works well both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management skills.
Pay
The anticipated hourly range for this position is $50,000.00 to $60,000.00. Exact rate depends on experience, skills, education, and budget. The range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, participation in a highly competitive bonus program with the possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
