Lab Technician, Mechanical Engineering Technology/Maker Space Student Worker

About the role

This position assists with utilization and safe use of equipment and supplies in Maker Space labs or other labs as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares equipment for laboratory use
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies
  • Assists students in labs with understanding the objectives of the laboratory
  • Assists students in developing troubleshooting skills
  • Assists with preparing and setting up equipment and parts needed to conduct laboratory assignments
  • Assists instructors as needed with lab equipment
  • Assists with lab safety and procedures
  • Confers with instructors to determine supply and equipment needs
  • Performs maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic hand tools and power tools, including machine tools
  • Knowledge of lab safety procedures and processes
  • Willingness to learn and help others
  • Fundamental experience and knowledge of college level CAD systems

Requirements

  • Current Wake Tech Student enrolled in a program in the Engineering, Technology and skilled trades division with a minimum of 9 college credit hours completed and a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Preferences

  • One year of experience in Mechanical Engineering Technology OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
