This Lab Technician IV role supports the production of beads used for water purification by performing a wide range of analytical tests and laboratory procedures. The position focuses on wet chemical analysis, water chemistry, and the evaluation of ion exchange resins to ensure high-quality products and timely support for internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and catalogue sales service samples and maintain an accurate and up-to-date log sheet.
  • Communicate the status of analyses clearly and promptly to sales personnel.
  • Perform appropriate analyses on ion exchange resin samples using wet chemistry and related analytical techniques.
  • Interpret analytical results and explain their relationships and implications for product performance and water chemistry.
  • Prepare clear, professional reports summarizing analytical findings and distribute them to the appropriate sales personnel.
  • Complete all assigned work in a timely manner to meet customer expectations and internal deadlines.
  • Assist chemists with synthesis activities and laboratory experiments as needed.
  • Perform low to moderately complex plant support tasks in addition to core analytical duties.
  • Use laboratory instruments such as spectrophotometers, ICP-OES, ion chromatography systems, and other analytical equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of tests, results, and observations in both electronic and written formats.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures when working with mildly hazardous chemicals and analytical equipment.
  • Collaborate with a small team of laboratory professionals while also working independently after training.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in a physical science field is required.
  • Familiarity with wet chemical analysis and wet chemistry techniques.
  • Knowledge of water chemistry and related analytical concepts.
  • Experience with acid/base titrations and the ability to perform titration procedures accurately.
  • Experience with analytical chemistry methods, including spectrophotometric analysis and UV-Vis techniques.
  • Familiarity with ICP-OES and liquid ion chromatography or similar analytical methods.
  • Experience working with ion exchange resins and ion exchange processes.
  • Computer literacy with the ability to use laboratory software and standard office applications.
  • Advanced writing skills to prepare clear, professional reports and documentation.
  • Ability to initiate tasks and work in an independent manner after training.
  • Ability to handle shifting priorities and adjust work to meet changing customer needs.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills for interaction with visitors, professional staff, and plant personnel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical science with at least one year of industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ICP-OES is a plus.
  • Experience with UV-Vis spectroscopy and liquid chromatography is beneficial.
  • Background in analytical chemistry and water chemistry is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team environment while also functioning independently.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage fluctuating workloads and multiple tasks.
  • Attention to detail in sample handling, data recording, and report preparation.

Work Environment

This position operates in a laboratory environment that is generally free of excessive noise and temperature extremes. The role involves regular exposure to mildly hazardous chemicals and analytical equipment, requiring adherence to established safety protocols. The technician works as part of a small team of four people, with three based primarily in the laboratory.

Initial training is conducted closely with a senior chemist, including approximately one month of intensive training followed by progressive independence, with the expectation of working largely independently within three months. Supervision becomes moderate once training is complete.

Workload can fluctuate from low to high volume depending on customer demand, so flexibility and adaptability are important. The laboratory uses instruments such as spectrophotometers, ICP-OES systems, ion chromatography equipment, and other analytical tools to support water purification bead production and plant operations.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $32.00/hr.
