Lab Technician

About the role

Microbiologist position with the IDOH Water Microbiology Laboratory located at 550 W. 16th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202. The role involves coordinating and performing tests for SARS‑CoV‑2 and other public‑health targets in wastewater and water samples. Contract duration is 3+ months with a Monday‑Friday, 7.5‑hour workday.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform SARS‑CoV‑2 and other public‑health target testing in wastewater and water samples.
• Conduct sample examination and analyses; record, interpret, and report test results.
• Complete required quality control procedures, ensure compliance with certification requirements, and maintain safety standards.
• Conduct wastewater sample concentration, RNA extraction, and PCR molecular testing.
• Maintain the laboratory record system for submitted samples.
• Evaluate, interpret, and validate laboratory results.
• Perform quality control checks on laboratory methods, materials, and equipment.
• Assist with preparation of reports from compiled data.
• Participate in evaluation of new products for environmental laboratory work.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biological science.
• Experience performing RNA extraction and qPCR testing.
