Lab Technician

Degree from an accredited 4-year or 2-year college and completion of an accredited Medical Technology Program or Medical Laboratory Technician program. Must be currently registered or eligible for registration as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP preferred). If eligible for registration, must pass the exam within the first year of employment. Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Draws blood, processes specimens, and reports test results to ordering physician or other care provider.
  • Prepares samples for analysis.
  • Monitors procedures and tests in the lab, maintains lab equipment, and troubleshoots as necessary.
  • Analyzes patient specimens for ABO/Rh, antibody screening, and crossmatching of compatible donor blood in the transfusion service.
  • Cleans and maintains laboratory facility.
  • Communicates clearly with attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Two years of previous phlebotomy experience on patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric.
  • Analytical specimen processing experience in a hospital clinical laboratory setting.
  • Flexibility in work arrangements, including performing the same task for extended periods or different tasks on the same day.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other people at the laboratory bench.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, computer typing skills, and Epic LIS preferred.
  • Ability to work unsupervised during callback times or other assigned hours.

  • Must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis and push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
