Lab Technician

Green Plains Inc. About the role

As the Laboratory Technician, you will follow best available practices and procedures of a Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure maximum yield and quality, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of Green Plains. You will report directly to the Quality Control (QC) Lab Manager and be responsible for day-to-day testing and quality control procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS).
• Monitor use and inventories of laboratory chemicals and supplies.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate laboratory equipment.
• Perform sample collection, preparation, and analysis per prescribed procedures.
• Collect and send samples to outside laboratories for analytical testing.
• Properly document all testing and calibration results within the company's data management system.
• Promptly communicate abnormal results as applicable.
• Prepare reports and analyze data as applicable.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by management.
• Maintain safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
• Comply with all regulations related to QA/QC laboratories at all times.
• Complete all required safety training and help champion safety compliance within the facility.
• Follow programs and procedures required to ensure laboratory cleanliness and safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology) is preferred. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, an Associate’s degree in a scientific field with a minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience will be considered.
• Working knowledge of data analysis software: Multiquant, MassHunter, ChemStation, Lab Solutions.
• Experience with automated laboratory equipment (HPLC, GC, NIR, IC).
• Expertise and proficiency in office computer software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with Federal Drug and Administration (FDA) guidelines and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) requirements is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
• Regular exposure to work near mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise environments, outside weather in all conditions, and process chemicals.
