Lab Specialist - Logistics Program - Lancaster Workforce Center
Weekly work hours: 40. FLSA status: Non-Exempt (United States). All positions are on-site; after six months, some roles may qualify for hybrid work based on job needs, supervisor approval, and Dallas College policy. Academic (Faculty) positions require an on-campus presence at all times, including when teaching online courses.
About the role
Dallas College seeks a dynamic individual to support the operation of one of its seven new academic Schools. The Lab Specialist will serve within a Dallas College academic School, aligning with the North Texas region’s workforce and industry needs to ensure graduates’ success. This role reports to the Lab Manager and is responsible for maintaining materials, supplies, equipment, and information systems while providing technical support for courses and programs.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations and maintenance of laboratories, specialized classrooms, learning labs, tool rooms, and equipment in support of courses and programs.
- Promote and support safety through laboratory safe practices and provide student training on safety procedures and hazardous materials handling.
- Maintain all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemicals and materials as required.
- Perform periodic inventory and maintain accurate records of equipment, tools, materials, and supplies.
- Receive, store, and issue tools, supplies, or equipment associated with courses or programs; maintain logs of distributed and returned items.
- Ensure security of assigned inventory.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and information systems in good working condition; schedule and track repairs, perform minor repairs and calibrations as needed.
- Schedule preventative maintenance of equipment and recommend replacements or new acquisitions.
- Prepare and track purchase requisitions; serve as primary contact for vendors for quotes and purchases.
- For learning labs, partner with faculty to coordinate support services, including student orientation and training.
- Troubleshoot lab hardware/software issues.
- Monitor students in the computer lab during open lab periods and ensure a safe, clean learning environment.
- Serve as a resource to students, staff, and faculty in area of specialization.
- Monitor and control budget expenditures within allocation.
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate lab assistants and assigned staff; determine work schedules and assignments in collaboration with faculty.
- Stay updated on professional and technical aspects of the job.
- Utilize excellent communication skills when interacting with internal/external stakeholders and the Dallas College community.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Complete required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate degree plus one (1) year of related work experience and/or experience in a teaching environment. In lieu of an associate degree, two (2) years of related work experience may be substituted.
- Official transcripts are required.
- Some positions may require specific state licenses/certifications depending on the discipline.
- Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
- Subject to a criminal background check; some positions may require a fingerprint check.
Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of laboratory operations, laboratory information systems (software and hardware), and laboratory equipment in one or more discipline areas within the School.
- Advanced ability to use computer technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, detail-oriented approach, and strong decision-making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills.
- Experience providing effective customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with individuals internal/external to Dallas College.
- Ability to comply with district policies/procedures and applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations.

Pay
Compensation range: N04-PT. Hourly rate: $23.78.
